The ShiftClick Club

If you remember a few months ago I started a virtual makers club Make with Umar.

Make with Umar is now growing. It is now not just a Makers club, it is a free online STEAMD (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths, and Design) club for kids and young at heart adults 😀. And we have changed the name to The ShiftClick Club.

To learn more about the club and register visit https://shiftclick.co.za/club , or read on 👇

You can join the club for free by filling in the registration form. After you fill the form you can join the private Facebook group which is the hub of all activity for this club. Club members are welcome to discuss the activities, ask for help, share their/their kids’ work and build a thriving community on the group.

There are two kinds of activities in the club.

🔥 Bonfires

A few times a month we post activities on the group called Bonfires. These are free activities ranging from electronics, coding, crafts, DIY toys, and even cooking, baking and gardening projects. Activities will usually stay within the STEAMD (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths, and Design) landscape.

Sometimes we post variations of the same activities for different age groups, from younger kids (5 to 6 years) to older kids (preteen and even teens).

If we have enough teens joining in we will post separate activities for teens every month too.

Members can pick any activities which interest them or are suitable for their/their kids’ age group and can leave those which they are not interested in. It is not necessary to participate in all activities.

🌲 Trailheads

Trailheads are optional workshops and classes on more advance topics including advance coding projects, wearable electronics, e-textiles, 3D printing, interactive writing, game development, and more maker projects.

Trailheads are conducted in small groups, mostly online. We charge a small fee for Trailheads as they require more focused mentorship.
