Learning Co-ordinates Geometry

A.K.A. Umar’s recipe on how to be a treasure seeking sailor:

Step 1. Make a rectangle with masking tape on floor.

Step 2. Make marks along the tape at every 10 cm.

Step 3. Join the marks with more tape, eventually making a grid.

Step 4. Number your grid.

Step 5: Search on the web for co-ordinates to make a boat on a Cartesian plane.

Step 6: Tape a rope or ribbon on every grid co-ordinates point until you have a boat with a sail. Remember first number on the X axis and second number on the Y axis.

Step 7. Make a couple of islands in the same way and talk about co-ordinates some more. This time without a printout to guide you.

Step 8: Pretend to swim in the sea.

Step 9: Play a game which involves drawing random co-ordinates cards from the pile and trying to reach the treasure island.

Step 10: Force your older siblings (teenagers πŸ™„) into playing this game with you repeatedly, ignoring all moans, groans and rolling eyes.

Sorry no images of teens throwing tantrums available πŸ˜‰

Step 11. Repeat as many times as desired.
