I started blogging about the educational resources in 2009 at Homeschool4Muslims. I had found so many cool tools and resources during homeschooling my kids and I wanted to share them with others.
I blogged for almost eight years. But as my homeschooling methodology changed (leaning more and more towards unschooling), I felt a need to change what I was sharing on my blog. I also decided to change the medium of sharing and launched ShiftClick magazine.
I go through hundreds of resources every week, in fields like design, tech, media literacy, trans-media writing, critical thinking and so on. All necessary skills for navigating the present day life, but which are not taught in mainstream educational institutes.
So the idea was to hand pick the best tools and resources for learners of all age, and bring them to you in a free digital magazine every two months. Well the idea didn’t materialze after the first two issue 😌
I started ShiftClick with a lot of enthusiasm and I am still enthusiastic about it. But curating resources, making artwork and putting together the magazine is a lot of work for a harassed homeschooling, work-from-home mom. So this side project took a back seat.
With the COVID-19 lockdown I am seeing a greater need for resources to help self-learners and homeschoolers. I want to start the project again, but this time cutting out the extra bits and focusing solely on the content.
So, I have reshaped the magazine into a digital zine or newsletter, which will be sent out twice a month (hopefully 😀)
Each issue will contain latest tools and resources to help you learn or teach and explore cool new things from the intersection of design, technology, photography, media literacy, critical thinking, creative writing, sciences, and more.
