Imagination

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Imagination is a powerful thing. We used it all the time as kids but as we got caught up more and more in the facts of life, we wrapped our imagination and kept it aside.

But Allaah wants you to use your imagination. Let me show you how!

Imagine you have a sibling (there is a reason why I want you to imagine a sibling and not think about your existing ones 🙂 )a playmate since childhood, your best buddy, your partner in crime. And then one day he/she passes away.

Imagine you enter a room where his/her dead body is lying. You see the beloved face, pale and gaunt in death. You approach him/her. The grief is enveloping you. The tears break the floodgate and pour down your face. You approach your beloved , sit by his/her side and you lower your face towards him/her.

Let’s pause here and think what will happen next? Why are you lowering your face towards the dead body of your sibling? Perhaps to give your beloved one a last kiss before he/she goes away?

Let’s resume our imagination. You are lowering your face towards the dead body of your brother/sister and then you tear a big chunk of flesh from his/her body and eat it. Then you tear another and you eat it and again and again and again!

Ugly isn’t it? But the gheebah or back biting we do every day is described by Allaah as eating the flesh of your brother. The fun we make of another, the judgment we pass, the sly remarks! “did you look at her dress? Who does she think she is? Another Taylor Swift?” or “here comes the haraam police again with their preaching.” or “he is a terrible husband” or “my sister in law is the nightmare”.

We say things like these all the time while Allaah is saying:

And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it.

al-Hujuraat : 12

Allaah wants you to use your imagination. He wants you to pause, reflect, think and imagine when you come across a parable in Quran.

Allaah doesn’t want you to rush off to finish two khatams this Ramadhan.

سبحانك اللهم و بحمدك نشهد ان لااله الّا انت نستغفرك و نتوب اليك
