بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah [Al Baqara ,02]
The word Allah uses here is al-muttaqeen. For the students of Arabic, muttaqoon or muttaqeen is a noun. There is no equivalent noun in English for this word so it has been translated as “those conscious of Allaah”. The other more literal meaning is “those who want to protect themselves”.
In Quran, it is a very interesting and beneficial study to note when Allaah chooses nouns versus when He uses verbs. For laymen like us, a simple explanation is that nouns are more timeless, more permanent. So when Allah uses a noun, it imparts a flavour of timelessness about the subject.
So when Allah tells us that this book (Quran) is guidance for muttaqeen, it gives a meaning of timelessness. Allah is telling us that there will always be people who will be conscious of Allaah, who will want to protect themselves from His disobedience, who will love Him enough to strive in His path. And Quran will keep on providing guidance to them.
Sometimes we Muslims get depressed about the times we are living in. The darkness that surrounds us and the troubles that engulf us. We lose hope in humanity. We forget that goodness still exists.
But this ayaah reminds us that till the end of time, there will be good people and till the end of time guidance will be given to those who look for it.
