بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Taking an oath or Qasm is a serious matter in Islam. We are not allowed to take an oath (qasm) or use words like “Wallahi” in a light hearted way. These oaths are only saved for grave situations like bearing testimony.
So imagine the enormity of the matter when Allaah (subhanahu wa talaa) takes an oath. Allah never lies, every word in Quran is true. So when Allaah takes an oath, it is an indicator of the seriousness of the matter. It’s like Allah places highlights on a matter by taking an oath. It is for our understanding, to make us realize the enormity of the matter.
And then sometimes Allah takes a single oath and sometimes He takes multiple oaths before stating something. So it is like a neon sign now, not just a high lighter. And Allaah takes four oaths before stating that He has created you in the best form. Best means that it isn’t possible to be better than that.
So next time a beauty magazine, or friends or family tell you that you are too short or too tall or too fat or too thin, or you don’t have the perfect complexion or perfect hair, pause and think about the four oaths Allah takes in Sura at Teen.
The insecurity of women about their physical selves is feeding multi-billion dollar industries. So of course it is nurtured in today’s society. But Allah offers you power and liberation.
I wonder what will happen if one day all the women in the world wake up and decide that they are happy with themselves and they will not alter themselves to conform to somebody else’s standards.
سبحانك اللهم و بحمدك نشهد ان لااله الّا انت نستغفرك و نتوب اليك
P.S: there is a difference between beautifying yourself and altering yourself to conform to a standard. The latter is the offspring of insecurity, the former is not.
